The Liturgy of the Faithful

Watos Aspasmos

This ancient hymn is the hymn of the Cherubim witnessed by Isaiah in his vision of the throne of God.

And one cried to another and said, “Holy, holy, holy is the Lord of hosts; the whole earth is full of His glory.”

Isaiah 6:3

We likewise sing this hymn to...

Be partakers with the hosts of the world above in their hymn of praise.

St Cyril of Jerusalem

Congregation

The Cherubim worship You,
And the Seraphim glorify You,
Proclaiming and saying:

“Holy, Holy, Holy,
Lord of hosts;
Heaven and earth are full
Of Your holy glory.”

This year-round hymn or a season-specific one may be chanted instead of the previous short hymn.

† Said from 11th Tobi to 11th Paoni (19/20th January to 18th June)
∗ Said from 12th Paoni to 9th Paopi (19th June to 19/20th October)
‡ Said from 10th Paopi to 10th Tobi (20th/21st Oct to 18/19th Jan)

Congregation

O Lord, God of hosts,
Turn again and look down from heaven,
And see and visit this vine;
Restore and establish it, this which Your right hand has planted.

Alleluia, Alleluia, Alleluia.
(Bless the air of heaven.)†
(Bless the water of the rivers.)∗
(Bless the seeds and herbs.)‡
May Your mercy and Your peace
Be a fortress to Your people.

Holy, Holy, Holy,
Lord of hosts;
Heaven and earth are full
Of Your holy glory.
